question - part 2,3

Describe a person who likes to read a lot.

  • You should say:

  • Who this person is

  • How you knew him/her

  • What he/she likes to read

  • And explain why you think he/she likes to read a lot

One of my closest friends who loves reading is my roommate, Jack. We’ve been living together since the first year of university, and I’ve always admired his passion for books.

Jack enjoys reading science fiction and mystery novels, especially works by Isaac Asimov. He often spends hours immersed in books like Foundation or I, Robot. Besides fiction, he also reads biographies of famous scientists, which he finds both inspiring and informative.

I believe Jack reads a lot because it helps him relax and stimulates his imagination. He once mentioned that books take him to a different world, where he can explore new ideas and possibilities. Another reason could be his curiosity—he’s always eager to learn more about the world and human achievements.

Living with Jack has been inspiring. His dedication to reading has even motivated me to pick up more books and broaden my interests.

Part 3

1. Why are many people so keen on reading?

I think many people enjoy reading because it’s both entertaining and educational. Books allow readers to escape from reality and explore different worlds, which can be relaxing and inspiring. At the same time, reading provides valuable knowledge and helps people develop critical thinking skills. For some, it’s also a way to connect with others who share similar interests, such as discussing books or joining reading clubs.

2. Do you think parents should help their children develop the reading habit from an early age?

Yes, absolutely. Developing a reading habit from an early age is essential for children’s growth. Reading not only improves their language skills but also broadens their imagination and understanding of the world. Parents can encourage this habit by reading bedtime stories, visiting libraries, or simply leading by example. If children see their parents reading, they’re more likely to pick up the habit themselves.

3. Is reading for fun or for work more important?

It depends on the individual and their needs. Reading for fun is important because it helps people relax and enjoy their free time, which is essential for mental health. On the other hand, reading for work or study is crucial for gaining knowledge and staying informed in a professional field. Ideally, people should balance both, as each serves a unique purpose in life.
